Wi-Fi Protected Setup is abbreviated as WPS. It is a standard established by the Wi-Fi Alliance in January 2007. All certified wireless devices could carry the Wi-Fi Protected Setup Certification.

WPS is aimed to give users a simpler wireless Internet settings and security encryptions. Many users do not apply security settings due to the fact that in order to maintain wireless Internet security, complicated settings are needed. This causes a lot wireless Internet security vulnerabilities both among home and office users. Therefore, Wi-Fi Alliance developed WPS to simplify wireless Internet security settings. For wireless Internet security, after completing security settings on the wireless broadband routers, users can apply the security settings on their wireless LAN adapters with only a set of Pin Code or WPS buttons.
